What about UTP ?
Answer
Who says balun says UTP ! Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling allows many communication protocols to reside in the same wire bundle, including audio, data, CCTV video and control.
The benefits of structured UTP cabling include low cost installation (UTP cable is less expensive that coax or fiber cable) better interference rejection, color-coded cabling, it is physically smaller than coax cable and finaly, UTP cable is easy to terminate.
Twisted pair cables were first used in telephone systems by Bell in 1881 and by 1900 the entire American network was twisted pair, or else open wire with similar arrangements to guard against interference. Most of the billions of conductor feet (millions of Kilometres) of twisted pairs in the world are outdoors, owned by telephone companies, used for voice service, and only handled or even seen by telephone workers. The majority of data or Internet connections use those wires.
Unshielded Twisted Pair cables are not shielded. This lack of shielding results in a high degree of flexibility as well as rugged durability. That's why, for some products, like our passive VGA balun, we highly recommend to use STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cable.
